Applications due March 31 for RTA scholarship

The Putnam County Retired Teachers Association will award a $300 scholarship to a third or fourth year college students who aspires to become a future educator.

The recipient must be a Putnam County high school graduate and an Indiana college/university student who is currently enrolled in an undergraduate program resulting in a degree in education.

Interested students may submit a letter of application which includes the applicant's name, address, name of high school and year of graduation, along with a brief description of pertinent personal experiences, interests and aspirations. Applicants should also include the name, address and telephone number of a former high school teacher who can be contacted for a personal reference. A letter of recommendation from the applicant's college/university verifying the applicant's academic major and current status of enrollment must accompany the application.

Applications should be mailed to scholarship chairperson Marilyn Martin at 2257 S. CR 800 W., Greencastle, IN 46135, and must be received by March 31.

The local retired teachers association annually awards this scholarship with the intent of encouraging and assisting those students who plan a future in education. Christian Pitts and Sara Lois Wilson received scholarship in 2006.
