North Putnam takes two from Eminence

Each athlete received a plaque for four years of competition. EMINENCE -- The North Putnam Middle School eighth-grade girls' basketball team improved to 4-5 on the season after defeating Eminence, 33-30, on the road.

The Cougars did a good job of taking care of the ball and limiting the number of turnovers.

Shelby Frye and Morgan McLaughlin hit some key free throws in the last minute of play that helped to clinch the game.

Leading scorers for North Putnam were Shelby Frye with 14 points and Megan Robinson chipped in seven. Dani Merrick paced Eminence with 28 points.

The Cougars seventh-grade girls squad defeated Eminence, 20-13, on the road Thursday night.

Leading the Cougars was Kensy Asbell with 8 points. Bridget Johnston followed with six. Laken Pugh chipped in four with Lee Ann Davis scoring two.

GMS splits with North Clay

The Greencastle Middle school girls seventh-grade A and B teams split with North Clay on Thursday night. The A team lost, 25-16, while the beat team gain the victory, 14-11 on the road.

Greencastle's A squad was led in scoring by Taylor Pruitt with 10 points followed by Kallie Brattain with three. Riley Seahorn chipped in two points and Kandice Phillips had one point in the loss.

In B team action, the Tiger Cubs needed only two scorers to get past North Clay, 14-11.

Erynn Beck scored 12 points in the victory with Jesse Bennett adding two.

GMS eighth-grade A defeats North Clay

The Greencastle Middle School eighth-grade girls A and B squads split with North Clay on the road Thursday. The A team won, 21-4, while the B team lost a close battle, 18-17.

The A team was led by Mallory Miller with eight points with Katie Farris and Chelsea Samuels close behind, with five and four points respectively. Hannah Deer and Hannah Cochren had two points each.

For the B team, Kelsey Grzesiek tallied eight points to led the way. Karly Bumgardner had four points, Hannah Cochren had three and Braden Amis added two in the loss.

South downs Clovers

The South Putnam Eagles eighth-grade girls defeated Cloverdale, 26-15, on the road Thursday night.

The Eagles had a balanced attack with Kelsey Searles leading way with 10 points and Brittany Burdge close behind with eight.

Olivia Cavell had three points for South Putnam and Megan Barnes and Molli Parker each had two. Hillary Collins added one point.

For Clovedale, Holly McCammon paced the way with five points with Shelby Parkison following with four. The Cloverdale trio of Katelynn Johnson, Sam Manning, and Kristen Stokes each scored two points.
