Players earn All-WCC status

The West Central Conference recently released its 2006-07 All-Conference Basketball Teams and Putnam County was well represented.

The se-ven girls' and boys' basketball coaches vote for the players who earn All-Conference status.

A total of 14 county players were named to the All-Conference lists this year, including eight boys and six girls.

Cloverdale had the most choices of all county schools with six while South Putnam had three. Greencas-tle and North Putnam had two each.

For Clover-dale, seniors Chris-tian Cheat-ham and Michael Neese made the team this year as did junior Craig Blair.

Blair finished the season with an average of 19.5 points per game while Neese tallied 18.6. Cheatham also averaged 14.4 points per game.

Joining the CHS trio on the All-Conference team were Greencas-tle's Bren-nan Burks and Zac Remsburg. Burks, a junior, averaged 16.7 points per game this season while the senior Remsburg tallied an average of 11.5 per game.

South Putnam's Ben Anderson and North Putnam's Jake Mullis also made the All-Conference squad this year.

Mullis, a senior, finished the year with an average of 16.9 points per game while Anderson led the Eagles in scoring this season with an average of 10.2 points per contest.

Also making the All-Conference team this year included Cascade's Jake Daugherty and Brad Suter, Monrovia's Andrew Grismore, and Speedway's Taylor Dial and Adam Walton.

Cloverdale and Greencastle both finished at 5-1 in league play to tie for the conference championship while Cascade was third at 4-2. Speedway finished fourth at 3-3 while North Putnam and Monrovia were tied for fifth with 2-4 records. South Putnam finished seventh at 0-6.

Six Putnam County girls' basketball players also earned All-Conference status this year, led by three Cloverdale players as senior Hannah Monnett, along with juniors Chelsie Haltom and Ashley Koosman both earned All-Conference status.

Monnett led all Putnam County players in scoring this season with an average of 14.6 points per game. Koosman also averaged 9.9 points and 10 rebounds while Haltom averaged 6.3 points.

Other county players making the list included North Putnam's Brook Miller and South Putnam's Meghan Canary and Bailey Birt.

Canary, a junior, led the Eagles on offense this season with an average of 10.9 points per game while Birt, also a junior, finished the year at 8.2.

Miller, a senior, led the Cougars offensively this season with an average of 10.3 points per game.

Along with the county players, Cascade's Kate Miller and Kaiti Nease, Monrovia's Shayla Black and Lauren Long, and Speedway's Whitley Emerson, Katie Jones and Lauren Miller earned All-Conference honors.

Cloverdale and Speedway tied for conference honors this season, as both squads sported 5-1 records.

Monrovia and Cascade finished in a tie for third at 4-2 each while North Putnam was fifth at 2-4. South Putnam was sixth overall at 1-5 while Greencastle finished seventh at 0-6.
