DePauw swept in Sunday doubleheader

MEMPHIS -- DePauw baseball dropped both ends of its doubleheader at Rhodes to finish with a series split. The Lynx won Sunday's games by scores of 5-0 and 19-6.

The Tigers fell to 10-8 overall and 2-2 in the SCAC, while Rhodes improved to 24-4 and 10-2 in the conference.

In the first game, Rhodes Robert Flanagan pitched a three-hitter to move to 9-0, while DePauw's Brad Gerlach dropped to 1-1.

Matt Kleine, Mike Stout and Adam Ford each had singles for the Tigers while Richard Hurd, Brett Miller and Andy Boucher each had two of the Lynx nine hits.

In the nightcap, Rhodes jumped out to a 6-0 lead with four in the first and two in the second. DePauw scored four in the third to close the gap to 6-4, but Rhodes scored two in the third, five in each the fourth and sixth and one in the fifth.

The Tigers spread eight hits between eight different players. Mason Mosby had four for Rhodes, while Brooks Royer and Daniel Vanaman each had three. Hurd, Matt Beesley and Boucher finished with two each as the Lynx totaled 20.

Max Gertz picked up the win in relief and improved to 1-0, while Derek Bryant dropped to 1-1 for DePauw.

DePauw returns to the field today when the face St. Olaf at 6 p.m. in Port Charlotte, Fla.
