DePauw's Adam Ford doubles in the bottom of the second of Saturday's first game. Ford went 4-for-4 with three doubles and four RBI in the Tigers' 8-2 win in game one.

Adam Ford's strong 4-for-4 hitting performance propelled the DePauw baseball team to an 8-2 win in the first game of its double header against Centre at home Saturday.

After Centre scored in the top of the first, DePauw came out swinging. Jeremy Dickinson started it off for the Tigers with a single, followed by Matt Kleine with a walk, then up came Ford.

Ford smashed the first pitch into left-center field for a double which scored both Kleine and Dickinson to give the Tigers the lead.

In the top of the second, Centre looked ready to bounce back when Brandon Rosen smacked a double to right-center. But he was quickly followed with a strikeout and a pop out. Eventually Rosen scored, but that would be the last run Centre put on the board.

In the bottom of the second, Ford again blasted a rocket off the right field wall for a double to bring in another run for the Tigers.

DePauw's other scoring burst came in the fourth inning. The Tigers brought nine batters to the plate and came away with three runs on four hits, while leaving only two stranded.

DePauw shut down Centre in the top of the seventh, with Derek Bryant recording three of his four strikeouts in the game. Bryant had a solid day, finishing with seven hits, four strikeouts and one earned run.

Ford went on to hit a total of three doubles and a single to drive in four runs. Dickinson went 3-for-4 in the lead off spot for the Tigers.

With Ford controlling the plate, DePauw also had the most outstanding play in the field of game one.

After Jeffrey Williams hit a shot to shallow right, DePauw's Justin Weiner came charging in to make a superb diving catch for the first out of the third inning. Weiner also went 2-for-3 at the plate.

In the second game of the doubleheader, DePauw recorded its 19th win of the season by defeating Centre, 6-4 in a nine-inning game.

Weiner came up big again, going 3-for-3 and scoring three times. Eric Reese went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.

DePauw sent three pitchers to the mound in the second game. Matt Westenkirchner saw six innings of action, throwing for 10 hits, two strikeouts and four earned runs. David Morefield and Paul Rodenhouse combined for two hits, two strikeouts and no earned runs in three innings of play.

DePauw will next face Washington-St. Louis tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. at home.
