B. Eileen Williams, 97, Greencastle, died Feb. 11 at Asbury Towers where she had resided for the past several years.

Born in Putnam County, she was the daughter of Daniel Clarence and Katie (Howlett) Scobee.

She worked as a social worker in Saginaw, Mich., a clerk in the welfare department in White Plains, N.Y., and as a clerk in the Scarsdale National Bank, Scarsdale, N.Y., prior to retirement.

She attended Somerset Christian Church. She delivered homebound meals in Greencastle for four years and was a member of the R.S.V.P. volunteer program. She was elected vice president of the Council on Aging and Disabled and served as temporary director of the Senior Center. As a member of the A.A.R.P., she was appointed director of Chapter 1303 in 1989 for a two-year term. She received one of the 1990 National Community Service Awards from the American Association of Retired Persons.

She was also a member of the Putnam County Hospital Guild, the Executive Board of the Council on Aging and was a member of the Advisory Council of the West Central Indiana Economic Development District.

She married Kenneth Williams on May 15, 1930. He preceded her in death in 1983.

She is survived by sons Keith Lynn Williams and wife Linda, Rockville, and George Gill Williams, Tilton, N.H.; daughter Carol Ann Verbecky and husband Kenneth, Draper, Utah; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and three sisters.

Services will take place at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 21, at Brick Chapel Cemetery. Care and arrangements are being handled by Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle.
