Virgil Burl Taylor Sr., 100, Greencastle, died Friday at his residence.

Born in Parke County, he was the son of Calvin and Lottie (Martin) Taylor.

He married Ura (Green) Taylor on July 29, 1931. She preceded him in death on Aug. 5, 1985.

He worked as a brick mason, farmer and trapper. He was a member of the Beech Grove United Methodist Church, Greencastle.

Survivors include sons Brad Taylor and wife Donna, Tucson, Ariz., Virgil Taylor Jr. and wife Marilyn, Greencastle, Myron Taylor and wife JoAnne, Inglis, Fla., and Hallie Taylor and wife Helen, Greencastle; daughters Charlotte Martin and husband Les, Russellville, and Sharon Clodfelter, Greencastle; sister Katherine Smith, Roachdale; 19 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Hallie Taylor and Wayne Taylor, and sisters Unice Angleton, Bernice Angleton, Lola Green and Helen Morris.

Services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the New Life Baptist Church, Greencastle, with his son, Rev. Hallie Taylor officiating. Burial will be at Clinton Falls Cemetery.

Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the church.

Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, is handling arrangements.
