Jack Huffman, 84, died Tuesday in Phoenix, Ariz.

Born in Putnam County, he was the son of Reese and Lulu (Aker) Huffman.

He attended school in Putnam County, moving with his family to Clay County in 1939. He graduated from Staunton High School in 1940.

He attended Indiana State University, Roscoe Turner Aeronautical Acaemdy, and graduated from Northeast Airlines Flight Officer Course.

He worked for the airline until being inducted in the U.S. Army Air Corps Air Transport Command, serving in Long Beach, Calif., Casablanca, Morocco, Naples, Italy and Istres, France. He was discharged from service in April 1946.

After 40 years flying for airlines, he retired and was ordained a Baptist minister, serving as an associate pastor at Second Baptist Church in Sun Lakes, Ariz. He then served as senior pastor at Sun Lakes Community Church, and retired in 1992 to become pastor emeritus.

He married Maxine Bandy in July 1946. She survives.

Also surviving are daughters Kathy Fanucci, Chandler, Ariz., and Barbara Huffman, Tampa, Fla.; brother William "Bill" Huffman and wife Betty, Brazil; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jack Alan Huffman.

Services will be conduced at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sun Lakes Community Church, Sun Lakes, Ariz.
