Program helps young readers

Tuesday, May 15, 2007

Parents of young children are invited to "Every Child Ready To Read: How to Foster Early Literacy in Your Children from Birth to Age 5" from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday (tonight) at Sherwood Christian Church in Greencastle.

The program is free, and childcare is also provided at no cost. Also, parents will receive books, booklists and other helpful materials.

The program will be led by Children's Librarian Suzanne Hall of the Putnam County Public Library and will illustrate the easy and no-cost things parents can do with their children to get them ready to learn to read. Early literacy is what children know about reading and writing before they can actually read and write. Research shows that children get ready to read years before they start school. Parents can help their baby, toddler or preschooler learn important skills now so they can become good readers.

Sherwood Christian Church is located at 600 Kirkwood Drive, off Albin Pond Road.
