Robert D. Chiles, 80, Cloverdale, died Monday at Mill Pond Health Campus, Greencastle.

Born in Greencastle, he was the son of Claude Fay and Edna May (Cone) Chiles.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a carpenter.

He was a member of the New Providence Baptist Church, Greencastle, the V.F.W. No. 1550, Jesse M. Lee Post, Greencastle, and Hurst-Collins Post No. 281, American Legion, Cloverdale.

He married Norma Jean Johnson on July 10, 1949. She survives.

Other survivors include four daughters, Kathy Annette Wallace and husband Paul, Forest, Ind., Deborah Sue Gould and husband Francis, Cloverdale, Bobbie Jean Hamilton and husband David, Alabama, and Sandra Dee Monnett and husband Phillip, Reelsville; brother Doyle Chiles and wife Myrna, Brazil; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Elsie McNeff; brother Donald Chiles; and stepmother Anna Chiles.

Services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale, with pastor Murray Clugston officiating. Burial will be at Brick Chapel Cemetery, Greencastle.

Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
