WCC honors athletes at awards banquet

The West Central Conference bestowed its 2006-07 All-Conference and Academic All-WCC honors on county athletes, Wednesday night at Greencastle High School.

Six county athletes earned All-WCC honors for their performance in three separate sports.

North Putnam had two athletes make the list. Jake Mullis earned honors for football, baseball and basketball, while Brook Miller did the same in soccer, basketball and softball.

Cloverdale also had two make the list. Hannah Monnett was recognized for volleyball, basketball and softball. Chelsie Haltom was named to the list for her efforts in cross country, basketball and softball.

From Greencastle, Mark Jedele earned honors in cross country, swimming and track and South Putnam's Shelby Johnston was named for volleyball, swimming and track.

A total of 47 student athletes were designated with the title of Academic All-WCC.

South Putnam led the way with 19 athletes receiving the honor.

Those athletes were: Greta Alig, Hannah Ames, Janaye Asher, Bailey Birt, Meghan Canary, J.T. Chadd, Chelsea Clark, Cassie Davis, Shannon Egold, Kailyn Hammond, Katelyn Hayes, Brice Johnson, Laura Manninen, Benjamin Parker, Heath Pruitt, Megan Robinson, Samantha Stanifer, Jessica Swager and Jon Weaver.

Greencastle athletes that were honored were Kayla Birt, Megan Clodfelter, William Dory, Pete Edberg, Grace Fisher, Sydni Fisher, Camron Humphreys, Emma Kaiser, Carol LaFoe, Olivia Miller, Savannah Provine, Rebecca Seahorn, Erica Soster, Tyler Wade, Rena Warren, Andy Weatherford, Laura Weatherford and Rachel Woodall.

Cloverdale saw eight of its student athletes named to the list as Ashley Arnold, Amber Curtis, James Fidler, Kally Knudson, Kabe Mattocks, Cody Nees, Sean Rhine and Elizabeth Rich all were recognized.

J.J. Burns and Chelsea Greene were North Putnam's representatives named to the Academic All-WCC list.

The WCC also named athletes to the All-WCC Team in three boys' sports and two girls' sports.

In baseball, North Putnam saw Jordan Berry, Brayden Dahlstrom, Jake Mullis and Kyle Rooker earn the honor, while Erick Burgeson, Derrik Patterson, Zac Remsburg and Michael Richardson were named from Greencastle. South was represented by Noah Boswell, Adam Nees and Jon Davidson. Clovers making the list included Brandon Mescall and Cody Nees.

Earning the honor in track was Andy Weatherford, Ben Wilson, Luis Cardoso, Ty Buchanan, Camron Humphreys, Joel Bottom, Mark Jedele and Steven Miller from Greencastle. North Putnam put Jerrett Ban, Kyle Rooker, Griffen Dahlstrom and Craig Wood on the team. Allen Riddell from South Putnam and Dylan Stone from Cloverdale also made the list.

Golfers from local schools dominated the golf All-WCC team as nine of the 11 spots were filled by county golfers. Eric Whitaker, Patrick Byrd, J.J. Burns and Austin Malayer earned the honor from North Putnam while Greencastle strikers Eric Davis, David Lilly and Luke Crimmins were named. Justin Hacker of Cloverdale and Tyler Newby from South Putnam also earned the title.

For the girls', softball players named All-WCC were Chelsie Haltom and Hannah Monnett of Cloverdale; Cassie Alspaugh and Tabitha Wilson of Greencastle; Ashley Doyle, Chelsea Greene, Brook Miller, and Alyssa Simpson of North Putnam; and Hannah Ames, Oceaia Boetjer, Meghan Canary and Megan Robinson from South Putnam.

Greencastle led the way in girls' track with eight members making the All-WCC squad. Jamie Patterson, Hannah Serlin, Bethany Schroeder, Jennie Peart, Megan Clodfelter, Laura Weatherford Laura English and Kaitlyn Murtagh all achieved the title. Shelby Johnston of South Putnam and Brynlea Mattocks from Cloverdale were also recognized.

GHS also monopolized the WCC team awards as they swept the boys, girls and the All-Sports awards.
