GHS golf defeats Owen Valley

SPENCER -- The Greencastle boys' golf team stopped the Patriots on Thursday, 158-169, to improve its record to 12-2 on the season.
David Lilly paced GHS with his medalist performance of 35 and Nick Pritchard shot a solid 37.
"It was great to see David get back into form. He managed the course well, got himself in play off the tee, and took care of business around the greens," GHS coach Donovan Wheeler said. "Nick's round was pivotal. He was very sound around the greens; he got up and down effectively; and he made a string of big putts. His score gave put us below the 160 mark, which I felt was something we simply had to do on this golf course.
Greencastle had four players shoot under 50 to help lift them above Owen Valley.
Jacob Collins shot a 42, Eric Davis came in with 44, Luke Crimmins shot 45 and
Wade Huber closed the Greencastle efforts with a 48.
"My feelings are mixed because we didn't put up an ugly number, but we're always about a score and a half away from putting up the sort of number that we should. Tonight should have been about a 150-152, and everyone on the team feels exactly the same way," Wheeler said.
The Tiger Cubs will host Cloverdale and Plainfield Monday at 4:30 p.m.

CHS drops one to Artesians
The Cloverdale boys' golf squad lost a tough battle with Martinsville, 163-183, Thursday night on the road.
Michael Glassburn led the Clovers with 43 and Kevin Gregg shot well with a 45.
Andrew Cofer shot a 47 with Mike Wellington shooting a 48, Justin Hacker a 49 and Sean Rhine stroking a 51.
"This was a very disappointing loss," CHS coach Doug Wokoun said. "We had made some strides earlier in the week, but we lost any momentum we had built.
"We are not a team that can just show up and shot a good score," he added. "We were not mentally prepared for the match and the cold and wind just added to our misery."
Cloverdale will travel to Greencastle to face the Tiger Cubs and Plainfield Monday at 4:30 p.m.
