Mary Janet Stouder

Mary Janet Stouder, 75, died Friday at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born in Gosport, she was the daughter of Horace and Juanita Asher.

A member of First Baptist Church of Greencastle and Tri Kappa, she had worked for many years in downtown Greencastle at the former Prevo's and Ann's Fashion Corner, as well as at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville.

She attended Franklin College until she was married on a national TV show called "Bride and Groom" in 1952.

She married John William Stouder on April 8, 1952, and they recently celebrated more than 55 years of marriage.

Surviving are her husband; sons John C. Stouder, Indianapolis, and Jeff Stouder, Greencastle; daughters Janae Berry and husband Jack, Greencastle, and Janell Ray and husband Lee, Fort Wayne; sister Joy Marley and husband Bill, Greencastle; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jack and Joe Asher.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Whitaker Funeral Home, Gosport, with Rev. Paul Bowen officiating. Burial will be in Gosport Cemetery.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home in Gosport.
