Tuesday, August 21, 2007

SPENCER -- The North Putnam girls' soccer team defeated Owen Valley and recorded its second win of the season Tuesday night, 2-1, on the road.

The Patriots took the lead with a break away goal at 34:30 in the first half but the Cougars tied the game when Cara Horn scored on a penalty kick.

North Putnam seized the lead with 12:13 on the clock, as Brooke Hadley scored a goal and delivered the Cougars the victory.

The Cougars out shot Owen Valley by a narrow margin of 8-6.

"We were very fortunate to get out of there with a win," head coach Scott Spencer said. "Neither team took much initiative in pressuring on offense resulting in a lot of midfield play I'm proud of our girls for coming back from one goal down and playing solid defense to the end."

North Putnam will travel to Southmont at 5 p.m. Thursday.
