Eagles defeat Riverton Park in five games

MONTEZUMA -- The South Putnam volleyball team defeated Riverton Parke in five games on the road Tuesday night. The Eagles won 25-19, 24-26, 20-25, 25-23 and 15-5.

Liz Mink helped lead the Eagles with 18 points, seven kills and three blocks, while Shelby Johnston scored 10 points, nine kills and three blocks. Sam Stanifer also scored 10 points, two aces, three kills and 10 assists.

Oceaia Boetjer recorded nine points, nine kills, two blocks and nine digs, with Kaleigh Miller scoring six points and 11 assists. Katelyn Sibbitt contributed nine points and two digs.

Abbie Trauner held Riverton Park's offense in check as she recorded 17 blocks and one kill. Brittany Burdge added two kills and four blocks.

"We played really well tonight. At times we tend to sit back on our heels and allow the other team back into the game," head coach Jill Newton said. "This is something we want to continue to work on not allowing to happen."

The Eagles will host North Putnam at 6 p.m. today.
