GHS, SP win Eagle Medleys

South Putnam hosted the Eagle Medley for area cross country teams Thursday night. In the girls' meet, Greencastle was victorious, while the host Eagles won the boys' meet.

The event is not a typical cross country race. The "relay" is composed of athletes concurrently running 3K, 4K and 5K races. No one knows what runners from other teams are running until they make the turns for their respective distances.

A team's score is composed of the places of its top two runners at each distance. Low score wins.

Greencastle won the event with 10 points in the 3K, five in the 4K and 6 in the 5K, for a total of 21. In the 3K, Yvonne Martinez was second, and Katie Trigg was eighth. Laura Weatherford won the 4K, while Sarah Culler was fourth. Hannah Serlin won the 5K, while Kaitlyn Murtagh was fifth.

Cloverdale's Brynlea Mattocks won the 3K race.

On the boys' side, South Putnam won with a total of 23 points. Four points in the 3K came from Brad Eickhoff in first and Tanner Barr in third. Seven points in the 4K came from Tyler Heavin in third and Jon Weaver in fourth. They scored 12 in the 5K, with a fifth from Tyler Shofner and a seventh from Dylan Hayes.

Greencastle's Jordan Lewis and Ben Wilson won the 4K and 5K, respectively.
