GHS tennis defeats Southmont, 3-2

CRAWFORDSVILLE -- Greencastle tennis captured a hotly-contested match at Southmont Tuesday, defeating the Mounties 3-2.

GHS senior Brennan Burks moved up to No. 1 singles for the match, but fell to Brodie Nichols 6-4, 6-7, 6-4.

Sam Hirt won his match at No. 2, defeating Jared Earle 7-5, 6-3. Eric Warren rounded out the singles side with a win over Andrew Actis 6-1, 6-2.

On the doubles side, Logan Grzesiek and Seth Heithaus fell to Southmont's Kyle McMurry and Jacob Roberts 7-6, 6-4.

With the match tied at two, it came down to No. 2 doubles. Greencastle's Tye Fauvergue and Clay Spencer got down early, falling in the first set, 1-6. However, they rallied to win the second and third sets, to take their match 1-6, 7-6, 6-1.

"We had a great comeback wih by our No. 2 doubles," said coach Terry Ross. "We got to the end, and they had to have the last set.

"They were instrumental in a very good when for Greencastle," Ross continued.

The Tiger Cubs (5-2) host Edgewood at 4:30 p.m. today.
