Eagles drop contest with Monrovia in five games

The South Putnam volleyball squad lost to Monrovia in five games Monday night.

The Eagles lost 21-25, 25-20, 25-21, 16-25 and 15-9.

Sam Stanifer helped lead the Eagles with 17 assists, two aces, two digs, three blocks, one kill and one block, while Shelby Johnston added nine kills, six blocks, two blocks, 16 digs and one ace.

Oceaia Boetjer contributed 24 digs, three aces and two kills, with Liz Mink adding five kills, four blocks, one block, 11 digs and one assist. Kaleigh Miller had six digs, nine assist and one ace, Katelyn Sibbitt had 13 digs, Brittany Burdge added two kills and seven blocks and Abbie Trauner recorded eight kills, three blocks, two stuff blocks and tow digs.

"We overall played well tonight; however, we made too many mental mistakes," South Putnam head coach Jill Newton said. "I thought Abbie Trauner had one of her best nights of this season. She played really well at the net.

Oceaia Boetjer also played well and made some outstanding digs," Newton added.

The junior varsity defeated Monrovia in two games, winning 25-24 and 25-15.

South Putnam will travel to Danville at 5:30 Thursday night.
