Garald W. "GW" Starr, 85, Cloverdale, died Wednesday at Putnam County Hospital.

Born in Bedford, he was the son of William Atlee and Lily Mae (Howel) Starr.

He was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School. He married Martha Baker on Aug. 9, 1947. She survives. He served in the United States Navy in WWII.

He was employed with Allison Transmission for 46 years, retiring in 1988. He owned and operated Starr's Gun Shop in Cloverdale from 1967 to 2006.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 132; the American Legion Post No. 137, both of Cloverdale; the U.A.W. and the NFA.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, David Starr, Crawfordsville and John Starr, Cloverdale; daughter, Sandra Jane Meanor, Ill.; five granddaughters and two great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, three brothers; great-grandson and great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home with burial at 3 p.m. at the Roundhill Cemetery at Hwy. 31 and Epler Avenue, Indianapolis.

Visitation will be at 11 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday.
