DANVILLE -- The South Putnam volleyball team suffered its second consecutive loss Thursday in a five-game match with Danville, 25-18, 18-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-13.

The Eagles had to contend not only with a close loss, but an injury to a key player.

"Tonight was a tough loss for the team," said Eagle coach Jill Newton. "Sam Stanifer went down with a new injury in the third game and was out for the rest of the night. The team had to adjust working with a new setter."

Even with the loss of Stanifer, Newton found positive's in her team's resilience.

"T was proud of the way the girls handled the adversity they were faced with tonight," she said. "Sam is such a leader on the court that we definitely missed having her out there.

"I thought Megan Klotz did a nice job of coming in off the bench to set for us," she continued. "I was really proud of how the girls pulled together and rallied with all of the changes."

Stanifer led the Eagles with 11 assists. Kaleigh Miller was next with nine. Klotz came off the bench to get three.

At the net, Shelby Johnston led the Eagles with 13 kills, 12 blocks and 6 stuff blocks. She also tallied 18 digs.
