Charles Winferd Long, 71, Greencastle, died Monday.

Born in Coatesville, he was the son of William and Macie Lane Long. He was a U.S. Airforce veteran and later was a mechanic instructor at Greencastle Vocational School, Putnam County Area Vocational School and Indiana Youth Center in Plainfield, retiring in 1995.

He was a member of American Legion Post No. 58, Greencastle.

Survivors include children, Faith Long-Knott and husband Mike, Avon, Carla Hamilton and husband Thomas, Greencastle, and Charles “Mike” Long, Greencastle; a brother, Russell “Pete” Long and wife Doris, Greencastle; six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Kay Long; his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home. Inurnment will be private at Forest Hill Cemetery with military honors.
