Trick or Treat hours announced

All local communities are sticking to tradition this year, holding community trick-or-treating on the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Put on your costumes and fill your candy bags at the following times and locations:

Bainbridge -- 6-8 p.m.

Cloverdale -- 6-8:30 p.m.

Fillmore -- 6-8:00 p.m.

Roachdale -- 7-9 p.m.

Greencastle -- 6- 8:30 p.m.

Other local trick-or-treat events for Wednesday, Oct. 31

• Main Street Greencastle will sponsor a trick-or-treat event on the courthouse square from 4-6 p.m. Children and adults in costume are welcome to visit the local merchants to get candy and treats.

• The Putnam County Public Library will offer cauldrons of ice cream, potions of slime and books for children of all ages from 4-6 p.m. Trick-or-treaters in costume will receive a free book, compliments of Friends of Liberty, Area 30 students and DePauw’s Chemistry, Biology and Alpha Phi Omega Clubs.

• Greencastle Christian Church is hosting this year’s Harvest Festival from 6-8p.m. Families with fifth-graders or younger are encouraged to enjoy games, snacks, candy, hayride, and more. Call 653-5816 for more details.

• This year families can take a break from trick-or-treating to explore a haunted house at the FYCDP Community Center, 605 Crown St., Greencastle. The house will be haunted from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and is free to children of all ages. Volunteers are still needed to assist in the haunting. For more information, contact Kathy Robinson at 653-7202.

• Ghosts and goblins in costume can also score treats at the Shoppes of Greencastle from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. Merchants in that development will have treats for those in costume.

Haunted Weekend, Oct. 26-28

• Haunted houses and hayrides abound this weekend with opportunities for fun and frights for all age groups. There is still time to catch a thrill at the Putnam County Jail’s third annual Haunted Trail, with two events remaining on Friday, Oct. 26 and Saturday, Oct. 27. The trail is open from dusk until 10 p.m. and tickets cost $2 per person.

• The Explosion of Horrors Haunted House will be open Friday, Oct. 26 through Sunday, Oct. 28 from 7-10 p.m. and features a bon fire and hayrides. The event is located at the Twin Ponds Activity Center in Cloverdale and the $6 admission charge will go to benefit the Explosion Girl’s Traveling Softball Team. • The Haven of Horrors will present “Horrors of Hollywood” on Friday, Oct. 26 and Saturday, Oct. 27 from 7 -11 p.m. Admission is $5 for the main event and $3 for the Kids Corral featuring games and crafts. Also one-half of a processed hog will be raffled to two winners. An adult must accompany visitors under 12. Haven of Horrors is located at Hope Haven, 10416 E. U.S. 40. • Join the Cooper family at Robe Anne Park, shelter 5 on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 2-7 p.m. Activities will include games, costume contests, music and prizes, ranging from t-shirts to hockey tickets and more. Admission is $5 per family and will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for Research. Call (765) 655-9130 for details.

• Raccoon State Recreation Area will host a weekend of Halloween festivities, kicking it all off with a scavenger hunt from 7-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26. Saturday’s activities begin at 3 p.m. and will range from pumpkin carving and costume contests to trick-or-treating and hayrides. All activities but the $1 hayride are free, but non-campers must pay a standard entrance fee of $5 for in-state and $7 for out-of-state vehicles. For information call (765) 344-1412.

• The Waters of Greencastle will present The Haunted Courtyard from 7-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26. The event will be located at 1601 Hospital Drive, Greencastle, and will include activities for children of all ages.

• North Putnam Band will sponsor a hayride and haunted trail at North Putnam High School on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 6-10 p.m. For information call 246-6101. Lieber State Recreation Area will also host a Haunted Hayride on Oct. 27 from 7-10 p.m., and tickets are $2 per person.

• The 2007 Russellville Community Center’s Halloween Social will be this Saturday, Oct. 27. The event will include a chili supper, carnival games, a haunted house and masquerade contest. Contest registration begins at 5:30 p.m. and all members of the public are invited to attend.
