Putnam County Jail

One person was booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

• Gene Jones, 44, Cloverdale, was booked in at 8 p.m. Wednesday for resisting law enforcement using a vehicle, criminal recklessness, driving while intoxicated with prior conviction, reckless driving and being a habitual offender. He was arrested by Cloverdale Police Chief Charlie Hallam.

Sheriff's Dept.

Several accidents were investigated recently by the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.

• At 1:35 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, a car slid off the road at 2806 W. CR 400 South.

Lt. Danny Wallace reported that Darby Kennedy, Greencastle, driving a 2006 Subaru Outback, was northbound and lost control due to wet road conditions.

Damage was estimated at $750-1,000.

• At 8:27 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, a car struck a deer on CR 25 East at U.S. 40.

Deputy Ron Campbell reported that Andrew Halton, Brazil, driving a 1997 Ford Escort, was northbound when a deer ran into the roadway and he was unable to avoid hitting the animal.

Damage was estimated at $1,000-2,500.

• At 1:50 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, two cars collided on U.S. 231 at Mill Street.

Deputy Dough Nally reported that Ashlee Hayden, Cloverdale, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt and failed to see a 2004 Toyota truck, driven by Denver Chesser, Stilesville, stopped to turn, causing her to rear-end the vehicle.

Damage was estimated at $5,000-10,000.

• At 5:55 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, two cars collided on CR 1000 South at CR 425 East.

Deputy Nally reported that Allen Spugnardi, Cloverdale, was driving a 1997 Ford Escort eastbound and was going to turn, when he was struck in the rear by a 1994 Toyota, Camry, driven by Deidre Yeley, Cloverdale.

Damage was estimated at $1,000-2,500.

• At 4:18 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, a car and a semi-tractor trailer collided on U.S. 36 at CR 875 West.

Deputy Nally reported that Charles Brewer, Greencastle, driving a Pontiac Grand Prix, failed to stop at a stop sign and ran into the side of a 2003 Mack truck, driven by Charles Hoffa, Cloverdale.

Damage was estimated at $5,000-10,000.

State Police

Indiana State Police at Putnamville investigated a single-car accident with an injury Wednesday.

Trooper Christ Harcourt reported that Barbara Wallace, Oklahoma, was driving with her daughter eastbound at the 32-mile marker of Interstate 70 Wednesday morning when she fell asleep at the wheel.

The 2001 Mitsubishi Montero crossed into the median and rolled over, coming to rest upside down, Harcourt said.

He said Wallace was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with what appeared to be injuries to her lower extremities along with cuts and scrapes. Her daughter did not appear to be injured.

The interstate was shut down for several minutes while the helicopter landed to retrieve the patient, Harcourt said.

Also on scene were firefighters from Reelsville and Cloverdale, along with Greencastle Fire Dept.

Greencastle firefighters responded to one fire run recently.

At 1:15 p.m., firefighters were called to 20 S. Jackson St. for a medical assist. They returned at 1:27 p.m.
