Car hits utility pole

Van Bibber Lake resident Candy Seeley's 1995 Dodge Intrepid was totaled Thursday after it hit a power pole a half mile west of U.S. 231 on CR 500 North. Firefighters from Bainbridge and Van Bibber Lake assess the damage.

A Putnam County woman and her young son are fine after their car careened off Somerset Church Road (CR 500 North) Thursday morning and struck a power pole.

Van Bibber Lake resident Candy Seeley was driving her son to school and was eastbound, approximately a half mile west of U.S. 231 when she says her suspension began to shake violently, according to officials at the scene.

Her 1995 Dodge Intrepid careened out of control, striking the ditch on the south side of the road and then deflecting to the north side of the road where it struck and snapped a power pole in front of a residence.

When Van Bibber Lake Fire Lt. Pam Buis arrived on the scene, she found the mother and son standing outside the vehicle. Buis said the boy suffered a bump on his head but he was examined and released by Operation Life medics at the scene.

Also on the scene were firefighters from Bainbridge and Trooper Chris Harcourt with the Indiana State Police.
