Holiday Home Tour Nov. 18

Thursday, November 8, 2007

Six Greencastle area residences will be featured in the 25th annual Holiday Home Tour set for 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18.

Delta Theta Tau philanthropic sorority presents the fundraising event, and proceeds from each $7 admission benefits the Delta Theta Tau Memorial Fund as well as projects such as Clothe-A-Child, The Giving Tree, Senior Center Food Pantry and other county organizations.

Those attending should wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to remove shoes at some of the homes.

Homes on the tour are:

* Vic and Linda Hunter, 3645 S. CR 200 West (Manhattan Road). Also known as Airy Knob Farm, the 1870s Victorian farmhouse is located on rolling farmland with pastures, crops, ravines and picturesque pond. Special features of this newly renovated home include multiple porches, natural fireplaces, elegant woodwork, gaslight fixtures, tile, and natural wood floors. Guests will need to park at Emmaus Church in Limedale to take a bus to the home, since the driveway is narrow. Buses are provided courtesy of Asbury Towers.

* Gary and Sandy Gretter, 1020 Barrington Drive. This custom-built, 5-bedroom home in Barrington Hills Estates is decorated for the holiday season as each room features a special nativity scene and holiday tree. The home has an eclectic feel with items from the Orient, antique family pieces, wood trim and skylights. The large kitchen and breakfast nook features cherry cabinets and overlooks the two wood decks, wrapping around a sunroom. The library features a large stone fireplace.

* John and Dee Ehrhardt, 629 Anderson St. The home is a recently remodeled Colonial-style residence built in 1923. Each room is filled with holiday trimmings, and priced holiday collections include the family Christmas tree decorated with ornaments collected for each of their four children. A Nutcracker collection lines the fireplace mantel.

* Kevin and Kim Sullivan, 936 Evensview Drive. This concrete home with red brick exterior was built in 2006 with a goal of entertaining. The nearly 5,000 square food home has crown mouldings, woodwork and Brazilian cherry hardwoods throughout the main floor. A two-sided gas fireplace is shared with the master suite and sitting area. The upstairs 800 square foot bonus room features an office and family room.

* Marcia Ellett-Barker, 633 Elliott Street. This home was built by Daniel and Barton in the fall of 2004 as a modern 2,150 square foot one-story home with three bedrooms and a bonus room. The open floor plan features a kitchen with Brazilian cherry hardwood floors and honey maple custom cabinets by Concepts. Art acquired for the home includes a large photo of aspen trees in the living room, sweet grass baskets in the kitchen from South Carolina, stained glass from Nashville, and art pieces from her son-in-law Chris Foster.

* Asbury Towers Retirement Community, 208 S. Market St. This charming, all brick garden home has a 1,256 square feet living area with a large living room, dining area, kitchen and two spacious bedrooms. The master bedroom has a walk-in closet with full bath. There is a spacious laundry room, full guest bathroom, bay window, deck, and a two-car finished garage with closets.

Tickets are available at any of the homes on the tour, as well as at Eitel's Flowers and Gifts, Almost Home Tea Room, Ambler Hill Florists and from Delta Theta Tau members.

The tickets also include savings at local businesses such as Treasures on the Square, Fluttering Duck and 2 West, Final Approach Bar and Grill, and Rockhouse Brew and Grill.
