Fundraiser helps Salvadoran youth
Members of the community are invited to attend a "Benefit Tea with Harp and Heart," on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 3 p.m.
The event will be at the home of Gwen Bottoms, 125 Wood St., Greencastle.
The benefit will raise funds for the education of poor rural Salvadoran high school and university students who have pledged to return to their own poverty stricken communities to help educate the next generation of El Salvador.
The tea will feature harpist Harriet Moore, a DePauw music professor and guests will have the opportunity to purchase Salvadoran artifacts. A DePauw Winter Service team will deliver a presentation on the Salvadoran trip in January.
This benefit for the "Youth Leadership Campaign" in Suchitoto, Cuscatlan, El Salvador is managed through the non-profit CRC (Comite de Reconstruccion y Desarrollo Economico Social de Comunidades de Schitoto) and supported by CoCoDA (Companion Community Development Alternatives, 609 East 29th St., Indianapolis. CoCoDA has pledged to support ten high school and eleven university students in the Suchitoto area who promise to contribute to their communities after their studies.
There is a suggested tax-deductible donation of $10 when attending the event.
