Miniature village ready for Santa

The 25-foot holiday display under construction at Bainbridge Video will be completed in time to welcome Santa, who will visit the store and spend time with local children on Sundays from 4-7 p.m.

Hundreds of miniature homes, churches and ceramic winter scenes, twinkling and motorized, fill the front room of Bainbridge Video. Every year, Naomi Barker, the store's owner, takes the meaning of "Christmas spirit" to a whole new level.

Barker has been collecting the figurines for nearly two decades. It began 18 years ago when Barker's late husband gave her the first piece in her collection, a three-story musical dollhouse. Now the collection seems to have a life of its own.

"It started with my husband, and then my kids got in on in," Barker said. "Now the whole town has taken it up."

Every year, people from the community bring in items to be included in the now massive, miniature village.

The display, still under construction, is more than 25 feet long and Barker says she has been building a small portion every day since mid-October. She hopes the display will be completed in time for a visit from Santa, which will occur on Sunday from 4-7 p.m.

Barker encourages the public to peruse the display while children meet with Santa.
