Sheriff's Department

The Putnam County Sheriff's Department responded to three accidents recently.

* At 6:45 p.m., Monday, Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy Ronnie Campbell responded to a deer-vehicle collision at CR 300 South near the intersection of CR 800 West.

Barbera Aker, 64, Greencastle, told the investigating officer that she was northbound when a deer jumped in front of her 1998 Buick Century and she was unable to stop in time. Damage was estimated at $750 to $1000.

* At 4:11 a.m. Sunday, , a car struck a tree in the roadway on U.S. 40 near CR 725 West.

Deputy Craig Sibbitt reported that Christine D. Patterson, Brazil, was driving a 1994 Mazda van eastbound and did not see a tree that had fallen in the roadway due to winds. The car had to be towed from the scene.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-5,000.

* At 6:23 a.m. Monday, a truck overturned and spilled its cargo on Ind. 243.

Deputy Adam Hull reported that George Gilbert, Terre Haute, was driving a 1996 International truck, was coming down a hill and his brakes failed, causing him to lose control and spill in a curve. he was not injured seriously.

Damage was estimated at $5,000-10,000.

Greencastle Fire Dept.

Greencastle Fire Department firefighters were dispatched to three runs recently.

On Wednesday:

* At 8:56 p.m., firefighters were called to a West Walnut Street to assist Operation Life with a car crash. They returned to base at 10:08 p.m.

On Thursday:

* At 8:20 a.m., crews responded to 1701 Indianapolis Rd. for a fire alarm. They received a disregard order and were back on base at 8:22 a.m.

* At 1:54 p.m., firefighters were called to 3025 W. County Road 450 South for a carbon monoxide investigation. They found nothing and returned at 2:42 p.m.
