DePauw returns from break against Trojans

TAMPA -- After a 10-day layoff, the DePauw Men's team will face Case Western in the first round of the Tampa Bay Shootout at 5 p.m. Saturday.

The Tigers defeated Kenyon College 77-66 before the Christmas break as senior Stephen Schott provided the Tigers his best game of the season, scoring 22 points while hauling in nine rebounds.

On paper, the Spartans look to be a running and gunning squad, eclipsing the 100-point mark once and scoring 98 points on one other occasion. Case Western averages 85 points per game and grabs 43 boards a game. Ironically the Trojans final game before the break was a win over Kenyon 84-81.

Case Western has four players averaging double figures with Mason Conrad leading the way with 16 points and eight boards a game. Brad Sutton follows with 13 points, while Steve Young adding 13 points and Kevin Herring contributing 11 points per contest. Young has also collected 15 steals on the season.

The tigers have Mike Moore, Stephen Schott and Brian Oilar all putting up double figures. Moore averages 15 points a game, with Schott netting 14 and Oilar adding 13 points a game.

Ryan Wertz, who has struggles from the field of late, is averaging 10 points a game, while Steve Lemasters is adding nine per contest.

The Tigers are averaging 72 points per game along with 33 rebounds.

Both squads are lighting up from behind the arc, with the Tigers averaging a whopping 44 percent to the Trojan's equally sizzling 42 percent.

DePauw enters the Shootout with a record of 6-2, with its only losses coming against Centre and Wabash.

DePauw faces Case Western in the Tampa Bay Shootout at 5 p.m. today.
