NP girls win at Fountain Central

VEEDERSBURG -- The North Putnam girls' basketball team picked up its fourth-straight win Thursday night at Fountain Central, 53-50.

The Cougars (4-7, 1-0 WCC) led by eight points at the half, but found themselves trailing by four after three quarters. Coach Kevin Smith called it a "game of runs" and was pleased with his girls' ability to make another run in the fourth.

"I was proud of my girls. They hung in there," Smith said.

Shawna Johnston led the Cougars with 17 points. Dakota Malayer came off the bench to provide 14 points.

"Malayer came off the bench and gave us a great spark," Smith said.

Although she scored just four points, Smith was also pleased with junior Taylor Alles, who contributed some big rebounds and made two important free throws down the stretch.

The Cougars host Eminence at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
