NP freshmen get huge rally

BAINBRIDGE -- The North Putnam boys' freshmen team used a 25-point fourth quarter to come from behind and defeat Tri-West 48-46 Monday.

The Cougars scored just two points in the first and third quarters of Monday's contest and faced a 19-point deficit with four minutes to go. North Putnam used defensive pressure to gain possession of the ball and continued to convert in transition.

Payne Stewart led the Cougars with 16 points and seven rebounds, with Jacob Lucas adding 15 and eight rebounds. Lucas connected on four bombs from downtown on the night.

Tommy Welch contributed seven points and seven boards and Cody Summerlot chipped in four. Jared Fordice, Cody Beck and Josh Hunt had two points each.

North Putnam head coach Steve Peek commented on how his team never gave up and continued to fight throughout the game

"They just kept battling," Peek said.

The Cougars out rebounded the Bruins 29-23.

North Putnam will host Turkey Run at 7 p.m. Thursday.
