DePauw women hitting the road again

Coming off their 71-58 loss at Birmingham-Southern last weekend, the 13th-ranked DePauw women's basketball team (11-3, 4-0 SCAC) returns to SCAC play tonight when they visit Colorado College at 9 p.m. tonight. Their weekend road trip concludes with a 2 p.m. tipoff at Austin College on Sunday.

In the loss to Birmingham-Southern, the Tigers led early in the contest, but lost the lead to an 11-0 run by the Panthers. Birmingham-Southern led 37-24 at the half.

In the second half, the Panthers led by as many as 27 points before DePauw closed to within 15 points in the late-going.

Cassie Pruzin led the Tigers with 21 points, six rebounds and five assists. Jenna Fernandez and Emily Marshall each also had six boards.

On the year, Pruzin (13.4 ppg), Fernandez (12.8) and Gretchen Haehl (10.9) all continue to average double figures in scoring. Pruzin also has the lead in rebounds, with 6.8, while Haehl is dishing out 4.3 assists per contest.

The team is averaging 71.4 points per game while giving up 55.7. The Tigers are also outrebounding opponents by more than 11 per game.

Tonight the Tigers will take on a Colorado team (7-6, 3-2 SCAC) that is coming off a 70-59 victory over Hendrix. In the game, Page Whitney and Eliese Hansberry each scored 18 points to lead Colorado. Whitney pulled down 10 rebounds while Melanie Auguste handed out 13 assists.

On the year, Colorado is averaging 60.9 points while giving up 60.8. They are outrebounding their opponents by more than two per contest.

Auguste is leading Colorado with 14.1 points per game and Whitney is just behind at 14.0. Hansberry and Liz Kolbe also average more than 12 points per game.

Auguste also leads in rebounds (7.9) and assists (7.5).

As the team leader in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals, Auguste will obviously be a big focus for DePauw.

On Sunday, travel to Austin to visit the Kangaroos. Austin (3-11, 2-3 SCAC) most recently defeated Millsaps 69-46 at home. They will host Centre at 8 p.m. tonight.

On the season, the Kangaroos are scoring 57.1 points per game while giving up 58.9. In conference play, though, they are outscoring opponents by two points per game. They are being outrebounded 38.4-37.7.

On the year, Katy Williams is averaging 17.0 points per game and 10.4 rebounds. Amber Stafford leads the Kangaroos with 2.6 assists per game.

The Tigers will need to continue their focus on defense and rebounding to exploit the Kangaroos' weaknesses.
