Sheriff's Dept.

Two people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* Harlan Girton, 63, Brazil, was booked in at 5:06 p.m. Wednesday for possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. He was released at 10 a.m. Thursday after posting bail.

* Thomas Lee Ratliff, 19, Cloverdale, was booked in at 9:04 a.m. Thursday on a petition to revoke probation. He was arrested at PCJ.

Sheriff's Dept.

Several recent accidents were investigated by the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.

* At 5:20 a.m. Jan. 23, a car hit three deer on CR 500 East at CR 325 South.

Deputy Tom Helmer reported that Dustin Burris, Greencastle, was driving a 1999 Jeep Cherokee southbound when a herd of deer ran into the roadway. He was unable to avoid hitting the deer.

Damage was estimated at $1,000-2,500.

* At 6:02 a.m. Jan. 23, a reserve sheriff's deputy crashed on his way to an emergency run.

Deputy Tom Helmer reported that Reserve Deputy Don Lewis, driving a sheriff's department issued 2007 Ford Explorer, was on CR 675 East on his way to an emergency call on Interstate 70. Lewis said he came to a curve in the road and the vehicle slipped on the icy surface of the road. The vehicle went into a ditch and had to be towed out.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-5,000.

* At 8:30 a.m. Jan. 23, two cars collided in the parking lot at Putnam County Hospital.

Deputy Don Pettit reported that Brandi Rogers, Greencastle, was backing her 1992 Chevrolet Cavalier out of a parking space. Ice on her windows blocked her view and she backed into a 2002 Ford F250 driven by David Salsman, Fillmore.

Damage was estimated at $750-1,000.

* At 9:55 a.m. Jan. 24, three cars collided on U.S. 231 North at Edgelea Drive.

Deputy Don Pettit reported that Deborah Koester, Lafayette, driving a 2007 Mercedes Benz R-320, was stopped facing south behind another car that was attempting to turn into Edgelea Drive.

Behind Koester was a 1997 Saturn, driven by Katie Bray, Danville. Both cars were waiting on the car in front of them to turn.

A third car, driven by Connie Lacy, New Market, came from behind and failed to stop in time, striking the Bray vehicle from the rear. Bray was then pushed into Koester.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-5,000.

Greencastle Fire Dept.

Greencastle firefighters responded to three incidents Thursday.

* At 10:03 a.m., firefighters went to U.S. 231 and Edgelea Drive north of Greencastle to clean up fluids from a three-vehicle accident. No one was injured. They returned to station at 10:33 a.m.

* At 4:24 p.m., firefighters went to Dunbar Hill near the radio station for a car fire. The returned to station at 5:21 p.m.

* At 7:22 p.m., firefighters went to The Waters of Greencastle, 1601 Hospital Drive, for a small electrical fire in the attic. They returned to station at 8:55 p.m.

City Police

Officers from the Greencastle Police Department issued the following tickets:

* Kristina G. Alwine, 29, Terre Haute, was cited by Officer Christopher Helmer for an expired license plate at the corner of Bloomington and Hannah Streets at 5:47 p.m. Sunday.

* Michael Chastain, 47, Avon, was cited by Officer Darrel Bunton for 55 in a 25 mph school zone on Veteran's Memorial Hwy at 2:38 p.m. Tuesday.

Officer Ed Wilson investigated the theft of a vehicle at the Wood Street Apartment complex. Danielle Painter, 19, Greencastle, reported her 1995 Mercury Sable, taken from the parking lot between the hours of 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
