Joanna S. Carpenter, 77, Brazil, died Monday at her residence.

Born in Bridgeton, she was the daughter of Albert and Miskel Jeffries Ames.

She graduated from Bridgeton High School. She had worked as the society editor of The Brazil Times newspaper, and was a homemaker.

She married Robert Dale Carpenter on Aug. 13, 1949. He died Aug. 10, 1998.

Surviving are daughter Kim Knox and husband Tom, Indianapolis; son Sam Carpenter and wife Kim, Brazil; two sisters, Helen Horrall and Dorothy Nevins, both of Terre Haute; brother Albert Ames and wife Barbara, Rockville; four granddaughters and several nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, and sister Patricia Lawson.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Lawson-Miller Chapel, Brazil, with Rev. Ernie Rush officiating. Burial will follow at Clear Run Cemetery in Bridgeton.

Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday from 11-1pm.
