DePauw to announce new president Thursday

Wednesday, February 20, 2008

DePauw University will introduce its nineteenth president at a news conference set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Independent Colleges of Indiana, 3135 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis.

During the first week of February, the presidential search committee interviewed two finalists for the position.

Michael Fischer, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, spent Feb. 5 interacting with members of the campus community.

On Feb. 8, Brian W. Casey, associate dean for academic affairs in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, was on campus for a similar schedule of sessions.

The new president will succeed Robert G. Bottoms, DePauw's leader since 1986, who is stepping down at the end of the current academic year to become Chancellor of the University and director of the Janet Prindle Institute for Ethics. Bottoms will be on hand at tomorrow's event, along with R. David Hoover, chair of DePauw's Board of Trustees; Sarah Reese Wallace, who chaired the Presidential Search Committee; and, of course, the new president.

The news conference is being webcast so that all DePauw constituents -- students, faculty, staff and the alumni who are around the world -- can witness the event live, or revisit it as an archived file once the event is completed.

The webcast will be available online at:
