Chili on the menu at Red Cross fundraiser

Things will be heating up in Greencastle on Friday when the American Red Cross, Wabash Valley Chapter, hosts its annual chili supper and cook-off fundraiser.

This year's event titled "Sadie Hawkins Day" and will be held at the National Guard Armory in Greencastle. Women are encouraged to "grab their guys" and take them out to enjoy freshly-made chili, cornbread and dessert of his choice.

Wabash Valley Chapter representative Ginger Scott announced that the public is invited to taste chili prepared by local celebrity chefs from 5-8 p.m.

The evening also includes musical entertainment, along with games, prizes and special food for the kids. There will also be a silent auction featuring sports memorabilia and family get-aways.

Anyone wanting to test their chili-making skills and join the contest can do so by calling 765-720-1093 for details and to obtain an entry form.

"The Quest for the Golden Ladle will yet again be one of the evening's highlights," Scott says. "The traveling Golden Ladle has been proudly displayed at the eatery Almost Home by Chef Gail Smith for the last year. Gail was named 2007's Chili extraordinaire and Golden Ladle Winner."

The money that is raised through the chili supper and cook-off will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for an respond to emergencies in Putnam County, Scott said.
