Restaurant serves up kindness to family touched by tragedy

Thursday, February 28, 2008

One Greencastle-based restaurant is going above and beyond their typical protocol by offering a helping hand to a local family in crisis.

Marvin's, famous for its garlic cheeseburgers, has a wall collage featuring students holding up banners saying "Marvin's Delivers to …" locations across the globe. This week, they added Methodist Hospital, in Indianapolis, to the list.

According to Susan Wainman, aunt to South Putnam graduate Drew Christy who was in a serious accident over the weekend, "Marvin's is sending a bundle of food to the family [at Methodist hospital]."

Wainman, a librarian at DePauw, went on to say "I just thought it would be neat for people in the community to see how much people are supporting Drew in his trying time."

In the most recent update to the blog site, Kaila Christy, Drew's sister, has asked for continued prayer not only for Drew, but also for her parents Mark and Debbie.

"My brother makes me proud! He is a fighter," exclaimed Kaila.

Last Friday morning, Drew Christy had an accident en route to his family's home in Fillmore. He has since been in a coma in Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Across the county, people have been offering their support and prayers. The website that updates Drew's condition has had 15,888 hits as of Wednesday afternoon.

Now Marvin's can add to its wall that it delivers to those weary individuals keeping vigil by an ailing family member, and to the hearts of everyone with any knowledge of this lamentable situation.

The family has been updating it daily.

  • Thanks Marvins. You make us proud. This family has touched our whole comunity. Anything that can be done to help the family during this most trying time is certainly appreciated, I'm sure. Many of us are so concerned but can do nothing but pray for all of them and keep reading the updates on Drew. We are proud to have your restaurant here in this town and showing your support as well.
