Anita Mendenhall

Anita June Mendenhall, 76, Belle Union, died Thursday at Asbury Towers in Greencastle.

Born in Putnam County, she was the daughter of Lowell Allen Russell and Irene (Wilson) Russell. She married Donald William "Bill" Mendenhall on May 28, 1949, and he preceded her in death on July 10, 1996.

She was a homemaker and co-owner of Hillcrest Farms for 56 years.

She was a member of New Winchester Christian Church and recently attended Putnamville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Charla Jo Buis and husband Darrell, Belle Union, and Becky Samsel and husband James, Cloverdale; three sons, Dale W. Mendenhall and wife Lisa, Belle Union, Darrell Mendenhall and wife Brenda, Indianapolis, and Bradley Mendenhall and wife Kim, Indianapolis; a sister, Kathy South and husband Don, Bainbridge; three brothers, Stuart Russell, Bainbridge, Allen Russell and wife Beverly, Belleville, and Bobby Russell and wife Darlene, Belle Union; 10 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Cheryl Sue Mendenhall and brother Barney Russell.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale, with Pastor Valerie Best officiating. Burial will follow at New Winchester Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
