Cost-saving stoplight goes up in Greencastle

Saturday, March 8, 2008
Cost-efficient LED (light emitting diode) stoplights go up at the intersection of Round Barn Road and Indianapolis Road recently. Street Supt. Paul?Wilson said the cost of the installation of the lights is $5,486. "Mayor Sue Murray and the Department of Public Works are moving the city of Greencastle into the green conservation era," Wilson said. "We will use less than one fourth of the electricity now being use for the same brightness." The bulbs will last up to five years or 50,000 illuminations. The other intersections will be updated when the budgets allow. Pictured is a crew from Midwestern Electric performing the installation.
