Corrections officer arrested this week

An officer at Putnamville Correctional Facility has been arrested.

Internal Affairs staff received information that a drug deal would be conducted involving David Kiger, 26, of Rushville.

Indiana State Police was notified and Kiger was observed conducting the deal in Cloverdale. Kiger was arrested by Indiana State Police and charged with one count of dealing cocaine over 3 grams and one count of possession of cocaine over 3 grams, both class A- felonies; one count of dealing marijuana under 30 grams and one count of possession of marijuana under 30 grams, both class A misdemeanors; one count of dealing in a schedule II substance and one count of possession of a schedule II substance, both class B- felonies; one count of trafficking with an offender, a class C felony and one count of neglect of a dependant, a class C felony.

Kiger was charged with the neglect of a dependant due to his minor child being with him while he conducted the drug deal.

Additional information revealed that Kiger had intended to traffic with an offender currently incarcerated at the facility. The offender is currently in segregation pending the outcome of an investigation.

  • Wow, what happened to the old days when people would simply put files in cakes for the inmates?

  • Kiger should be put away for a long time for breaking the trust as a corrections officer and having a minor child with him. But he will probably get off easy and end up as a Cloverdale reserve officer.
