Environmental group seeks public input

Friday, March 14, 2008

According to a recent survey, residents of nine west-central Indiana counties have expressed their desires in the areas of environmental concerns, economic concerns, and social concerns.

The survey is being conducted by Sycamore Trails RC&D, a non-profit organization headquartered in Greencastle.

The survey is the grassroots document being used to develop a five-year "Area Plan". The Area Plan, to be completed and published in late summer 2008, will become the roadmap for Sycamore Trails to provide resources to address the most important concerns in its council area: counties of Clay, Fountain, Montgomery, Owen, Parke, Putnam, Sullivan, Vermillion, and Vigo.

Anyone living in these counties may access the survey by internet at www.sycamoretrails.org and clicking on "hot topics." A paper copy can be obtained by calling the office at (765) 653-9785. Responses are requested by April 7, 2008.

RC&D (Resource Conservation and Development) is an all-volunteer organization utilizing grants and private funding to help communities conserve natural and develop human and economic resources.

Presently, Sycamore Trails RC&D is comprised of seven standing committees working in the areas of forestry, education, fish and wildlife, entrepreneurism, land trusts, invasive plant eradication, and mine land reclamation.
