Kenneth "Kenny" N. Targett, 55, Greencastle, died unexpectedly Friday at his residence, of an apparent heart attack.

Born in Clay County, he was the son of William "Bill" Targett and Ruby Ferris Targett. He married Virginia "Ginny" Eaglin Targett on Aug.13, 1972, and she survives.

He attended school at Van Buren. As a young man, he worked at the Star Mine and then worked at several local saw mills. He was a logger for more than 20 years and operated his own logging business.

He was a member of the Brazil Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include his mother, of Terre Haute; his wife, of Greencastle; the four stepchildren he raised, David Wallace, Reelsville, Joe Wallace and wife Anita, Poland, Debra Murray and husband Ron, Sacramento, Calif., and Leisa Delano and husband Robert, Terre Haute; one sister, Diana Wheeler, Brazil; three brothers, Leon Targett and wife Rose, Carbon, Dean Targett and wife Evelyn and Wayne Targett, all of Brazil; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his father and a grandson.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at French Funeral Home, Brazil, with burial to follow at Calcutta Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. and again Wednesday prior to services.
