Wal-Mart Foundation gives $1,000 to GFD

The Wal-Mart Grant Foundation awarded $1,000 recently to the Greencastle Fire Department.
"We're going to use the money to purchase dual sensor smoke detectors to be distributed to the public," Fire Chief Bill Newgent said.
According to the chief, battery operated independent smoke detectors react well during flaming fires, but someone could be overcome with smoke before a smoldering fire sets off the alarm. Duel sensor systems include photoelectric detectors that respond quickly enough for people to react and survive.
"These new detectors cost three time as much as the others," explained Chief Newgent. "The Wal-Mart money will make a difference."
