SP elementary schools host kindergarten orientation

The annual South Putnam Community School Corporation Kindergarten Orientation for the 2008-2009 school year will be held at South Putnam elementaries on April 15, 22, 23.

Students and parents should attend the orientation session of the school they will be attending. They should plan to be present for the entirety of the session lasting two-and-a-half hours.

The dates and times for each school are listed below:

April 22, 8:30 a.m. -- Fillmore Elementary -- (765) 246-6136

A child must be five years of age on or before August 1, 2008 to be eligible for Kindergarten next year. To be eligible for first grade, a child must be six years of age on or before August 1, 2008 except for those children who attended a year of Kindergarten previously in another school corporation.

During the orientation session, a pre-school screening check will be administered to each child. All children must be screened before being admitted to Kindergarten for the first time. Those children who are not screened during the orientation will be screen the first week of enrolling their child in Kindergarten this fall. Parents must present child's official birth certificate and immunization record as required by law.

Each school is taking a survey to determine the number of students who will be participating in orientation. Please notify the school if you have a child or if you know of a child that will be entering school next year.
