Hospital grounds workers will treat their own injuries

Friday, March 21, 2008

Putnam County Hospital ground workers will now be taking a course in first aid.

The hospital board approved this training to keep workers from using the emergency room for minor cuts.

This will allow workman's compensation to be cut saving the hospital an undisclosed amount.

The workers would triage themselves for minor things that would normally be taken care of by a first aid kit.

In other business:

* The website template has been created and sent to three companies to get a quote. Thus far, only one company has returned with a quote of around $9,000.

* The Indiana State Board of Accounts is on-site for 4-6 weeks for an annual audit.

* Six new residential nurses have started their clinicals.

The Putnam County Hospital Board meets regularly the third Wednesday of each month at Putnam County Hospital at 1 p.m.

  • Does anyone else see something wrong with this whole concept? Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems to me that if working on the hospital grounds for the hospital that this should be done at the hospital free of charge. What's next? Performing their own surgery in the parking lot?

  • Yes, cloverlady, I agree. When I worked at another hospital we would write off all employees work comp claims under a designated dollar amount. We certainly didn't expect them to treat themselves! What strikes me as odd about this is that it applies only to "grounds workers"- how many of them can there be? How very strange.

  • I think if the reporter had been awake during the meeting his story may have been a little closer to the actual truth. This story is a completly wrong and Mr. Crafton may need to keep his day job.

  • Thank you "baffledbybanner" I can not agree more. Isn't it funny that when the newpaper gets a story twisted it is never acknowledged or retracted but they are the first to slam someone without even checking the facts first. Way to go Banner Graphic!!! Keep up the good work!

  • I wonder if the speak outs were positve remarks about the hospital if you would have such a problem with them? But we might be waiting a long time for that to happen.

  • To answer you Joker-The Banner picks and chooses which speak outs that they will print or even allow as a blog to a story. I know of a blog response that was submitted earlier today (about 5 hrs ago) and it has yet to be seen. I myself have submitted speak outs before and have yet to see any of them printed.

  • Every website does this why should the banner be any different?
