Man dedicates himself to helping others
A woman in a wheelchair will be able to move in and out of her home with ease now.
A family won't have to worry when it rains whether their roof is going to hold up.
These and other small miracles are being made possible by the efforts of a Putnam County man and his organization.
Bill Hutson, Greencastle, started Table Talk Ministries back in 2002 when a woman he went to Somerset Church with was in desperate need of house repairs.
"When I got there, she had a hole in the floor big enough for two people to fit in," Hutson said.
Once the business started to grow, Hutson sold picnic tables to help fund the projects. Eventually he was spending all his time building tables and couldn't work on people's homes anymore so he abandoned that.
"All the money for these projects came from my pocket," Hutson said. "We are the only organization that will fix or replace roofs for free," he continued.
Right now, the organization is planning to build two wheelchair ramps in Brazil and Terre Haute. They are also repairing 33 roofs in Putnam, Vigo, Clay and Parke counties.
With roofs costing around $5,000 each, the price of the charity gets to be too much for Hutson.
"I drive a truck 70 hours a week to help pay for this, then an additional 30-35 hours of charity work," he said.
When a client calls a government organization seeking aid, they are sometimes turned down. Now when that happens, the agency will give the client the name of Table Talk Ministries and Hutson will evaluate where to go from there.
