United Way of Putnam County welcomes director
The United Way of Putnam County has welcomed David English to the team as the new Executive Director.
English will succeed Cathryn Ensley, who served in the same capacity since the summer of 2006.
"The Board of Directors of the United Way of Putnam County would like to take this opportunity to express their gratitude and appreciation to Ensley for her hard work and dedication to the mission of the United Way, and the subsequent improvement of the quality of life in Putnam County, as a result of her efforts," committee members said.
English is a lifelong resident of Putnam County. He was raised on a farm north of Bainbridge and is the son of Vera English and the late Cecil English.
He graduated from Bainbridge High School, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from DePauw University and a Master of Arts from the University of Indianapolis. He has been in the field of social service for 35 years with the last 17 spent working for a non-profit licensed child-placing agency.
His work history includes more than 25 years as a counselor, including private practice and in residential facilities, stints as a juvenile probation officer, family case manager for what is now the Division of Child Services and the first Director of the Putnam County Court Substance Abuse Treatment Program.
English was Director of Public Relations for 12 years for the private, non-profit licensed child-placing agency for which he worked.
This provided him with experiences in the areas of promotions, event planning, fundraising and general interaction opportunities with people of all walks of life.
English is married to Margaret English and they have one daughter, Gabrielle "Brie" English. English has been active in the local youth leagues for many years, as an umpire for 40 years, as well as coaching and serving on various boards of directors, locally and on a statewide basis. He is an ordained elder and attends Fillmore Christian Church.
He said he is excited to be able to serve the Putnam County community in a position that can enhance the quality of life throughout all aspects and facets of the community.
He has spent the majority of his professional career serving other parts of the state and appreciates the opportunity to serve his home community.
