Students said safe after BB incident

Monday, April 21, 2008

First grade students at Ridpath Elementary got a scare last week when a BB hit one of the windows in the classroom.

Students were taken out of the class and local police called to the scene to investigate.

Principal Mike McHugh told the BannerGraphic that everyone was fine and parents had been notified.

"We put out a phone blast to parents of all students saying something hit one of the windows in the classroom and was being investigated. Later we sent a letter to those who had children in the classroom," stated McHugh.

According to Greencastle Police the incident turned out to be a juvenile shooting BB's from a BB gun in his backyard.

The child missed the target and the BB penetrated one of the windows in the schoolroom.

The windows are double paned and only the outside window was damaged.

  • Lucky for us, that is the extent of our local terrorism. I'm sure it still scared children and parents.
