Letter to the Editor

If you don't like the gas prices, get used to them

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

To the editor:

Do you remember Bush and Cheney scoffing at the notion of conservation during the 2000 presidential campaign?

Americans refused to conserve then, so we're going to conserve now whether we like it or not. If you can't afford to drive to work then either you'll move closer to work or you'll sacrifice your standard of living in some other way. Why?

It's simple supply and demand economics. World oil demand has outpaced world oil supply.

World oil production has pretty much peaked. There is not enough new oil to be found in the US or world to make a difference in supply. Thus, the price of oil is going to rise until demand lessens.

So get used to rising prices until you change your driving habits. We stuck our head in the sand then; now we pay the price.
