Even harsh, windy conditions couldn't stop the Greencastle girls' track team from dominating a four-way meet at home Thursday night. The Tiger Cubs won the meet with 116.5 points, while county foe Cloverdale was third with 26 points.

"We ran tired, but we ran well," GHS head coach Garry Anderson said. "They were tired because of our workout last night."

The Tiger Cub squad showed little sign of fatigue as they captured 10 events on the night.

Laura Weatherford led the way for Greencastle, gaining two relay wins to go along with her two individual wins. She won the 400-meter with a time of 1:00.3 and the 200 meter in a time of 26.5.

Hannah Serlin also captured two individual wins and two relay wins on the night. She dominated both her 1,600 and 800-meter runs. In the 1,600, she finished 20 seconds ahead of second place and in the 800 was eight second in front of Monrovia's McNellis.

Also picking up wins for GHS were Dee Wood and Jaime Patterson, who ran an identical time of 12.9 in the 100-meter. Erica Soster was victorious in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 49.5.

In field events, Caitlin Gannaway out tossed her oppontes to pick up a first place finish in the shot put. She threw a distance of 37-5.5. Laura English out distanced Monrovia's Dillon to captured the long jump with a leap of 15-1.5.

GHS senior Hannah Serlin led Greencastle to two relay wins in the 1,600 and 400 meter relays. Greencastle placed first on the night with 116.5 points.

After the meet Anderson expressed his happiness with the performances of English, Gannaway and two of his discus throwers. Hannah Deer was second in the discus with a toss of 91-20 and Erica Collins was third with a distance of 90-7.

"Our throwers did well tonight," Anderson pointed out. "Especially the discus. We had three girls throw well and Hannah Deer is only a freshman; that's the good part about that. This is Erica Collins' first year out throwing the discus.

"So our top two girls are newbies," he said smiling. "Laura English won the long jump and bet a very good girl in doing so."

Greencastle captured two of the three relays on the night. In the 400 meter relay, the team of Wood, Weatherford, Patterson and English won with a time of 51.4, while the team of Weatherford, English, Serlin and Ball won the 1,600 meter relay in a time of 4:19.8.

For Cloverdale, two girls finished the night with second-place performances.

Ashley Koosman was second in both hurdle events. She ran an 18 second 100 hurdles and followed that with a 50.1 300 hurdle run. She also placed fourth in the high jump.

Brynlea Mattocks was second in the high jump with the height of 5-2, two inches behind first place.

As clouds swirls overhead, Cloverdale head coach Kristen Crabtree was trying to look on the bright side of things. Although individuals performed well, she thought the team performance could have been better. She acknowledged the coaches were impressed with the performances under the circumstances.

With the county, conference and sectional meets coming fast, Crabtree and Anderson explained what approach they would be taken to ensure that their team are ready to go.

"We need to work on our handoffs on our relays," Crabtree commented. "We know we need to work on those, especially on our 400 relay and just clean up our starts. It's too late to work on anything else, so wehave to work on those little things.

"It's just fine tuning now," she said. We'll probably just stick to the same things, but we'll probably spend more time focusing on those little things like handoffs and speed work."

Anderson agreed that the team would training as they have the entire season and as three big tournaments loom on the horizon.

"We'll be ready for county, conference and sectional. We'll be ready," Anderson commented.
